There will be dancing in the streets on Canada Day as the City of Burnaby is hosting a new evening event this year, StreetFest on Central—complete with food trucks, family-friendly activities, live performances and a fireworks display.
“Burnaby has always been the place to be on Canada Day, and this year I’m excited to announce that we’re bringing the festivities to the heart of downtown Burnaby in Metrotown,” said Mayor Mike Hurley. “I know how eager Burnaby residents are to get out and celebrate with their neighbours, so we’re planning three celebrations that will have something for everyone—showcasing the best of Burnaby’s incredible diversity.”
StreetFest on Central will kick off at 7 pm with family-friendly activities. It will feature platinum recording artist and 3-time JUNO award winner k-os headlining the stage in Central Park, joined by platinum and gold album-selling international recording artist Bif Naked and Latin Grammy Award winner Alex Cuba, followed by a fireworks finale at 10 pm.
Road closures will be in effect along Patterson Avenue as well as Central Boulevard (between Patterson and Willingdon avenues) to ensure maximum space for visitors to explore everything the event has to offer, including:
- family-friendly activity and entertainment area in Civic Square
- community displays, games, pop-ups, mural fence painting and activities along Central Boulevard
- food trucks, beer garden, concert in Central Park and more
With Metrotown and Patterson SkyTrain stations nearby, there are plenty of ways to get to the festival. Visitors are encouraged to take transit, cycle or walk, and please leave pets at home.
Other Canada Day Celebrations
While the Streetfest on Central is set for the evening, Canada Day festivities will be going all day in Burnaby, with beloved community events set to return at Burnaby Village Museum and Edmonds Park and Plaza.
