This expansion particularly benefits free-floating carshare service Evo Car Share, while Modo, a fixed-point, two-way station carshare service, will also see an increase with 76 vehicles added to the jurisdiction.

Amy Choh, the director of Engineering Transportation for the City of Burnaby, mentioned ongoing discussions with Evo Car Share, highlighting the preparation of a carshare operating agreement. Evo Car Share, with a fleet of about 2,200 vehicles, will operate in Burnaby, and Modo, with 76 vehicles, will also expand its presence.

Sara Holland, a spokesperson for BCAA, the owner and operator of Evo Car Share, expressed excitement about the potential launch early in the new year, providing more convenience for locals.

The expansion of shared mobility options in Burnaby is a positive step, with future considerations for e-scooters and multi-mobility hubs once the city establishes a comprehensive safe cycling network.

In addition to car share expansion, Burnaby City Council approved new bylaws regulating patios on public sidewalks and curbside lanes, along with revised policies for temporary street closures. The city’s forward-looking approach aims to enhance residents’ transportation choices and urban experiences.
