It’s a long weekend, so you have extra time to spend in nature. Even if you can’t leave the city, there are plenty of green spaces right here where you can unplug.
Leave your phone and camera at home for a while, and just enjoy the forest with your senses: listen to the wind in the trees, see the light filtering through the leaves, touch a tree trunk, dip your toes in a stream, smell the fresh air.
Burnaby Lake Regional Park
Burnaby’s 770-acre park is a great place to start. The Conifer and Spruce Loops are located between Piper Avenue and Avalon Avenue so you can get right into the forest.
The 212-acre urban park is home to Douglas fir, cedar, and vine maple trees. Located in Metrotown, this park has lots on offer outside its outside edges, like a swimming pool, pitch-and-putt golf course and tennis courts, but once you get inside, you’ll forget you’re in one of the city’s fastest-growing areas.
Robert Burnaby Park
Just across the highway from Burnaby Lake, Robert Burnaby Park is the ideal location for a stroll in the woods. Follow the many creeks and winding pathways that wind throughout the park.
Burnaby Mountain Conservation Area
A mountain paradise with 1,423 acres of hiking and walking trails. In addition to steep, rugged trails, this park offers breathtaking views, especially at sunset.
This is one of the most popular city parks in Metro Vancouver, with lots of people walking and jogging around it. The trails west of the lake are an excellent way to escape the crowds.
